Ithacon 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 9:45 pm

To be honest , this site has been around since I was trying seriously to be a comic book artist thru when I more or less resigned myself to being a graphic artist and web designer for a career. I stopped buying new comics ’cause they were expensive in terms of money and apartment space.

I’ve been unemployed for over a year, was thinking I’d get some comic work done, but focused my efforts on my occults meets e-commerce website instead. I’d  been meaning to relocate to Ithaca NY, and intended to do so this month, which it looks like it may take more time.

Now the plan is to get some silkscreen equipment and print t-shirts to sell in Ithaca NY. I’m a damn good designer, I can make a better Ithaca tee. So I’m also thinking of reviving my Ithacat superhero, print mini comics of the character and give it away with the t-shirt featuring the character. It’s a plan, and the story this time is meant to be popular nationally, which is a challenge with such a localized character – but I like a challenge.

I went to the ITHCACON comic convention this past weekend. It was… depressing. Because I’ve not gone to a comic convention in many years, the ones I went to were often Ithacon conventions that were HUGE compared to the small get together this past weekend. It featured Roger Stern, Spiderman and Superman author who is also an Ithaca native, a Marvel Spiderman editor and other artists. One of the artists being a guy that worked at Marvel 10 years ago and was laid off.

On the positive side, all of the pros were impressed with my work, I was accepted as a fellow pro. On the downside, no one knew how to make money with comics much. The consensus was my t-shirt idea was a good one.

So… I will be posting an Itha-cat comic soon. If you check the misc. link, there’s a sample of the newspaper cartoon, Ithacat. It lasted 20 weeks before letter writers complained about the content and got it cancelled.

The new comic will be totally wrong for any news paper, it’ll be good.

Geez, I lost my admin password and so wasn’t able to post – but then found a bookmark that had the password (actually it was the username I forgot) remembered on my laptop.

Anyhow I’ve been stuck on a farm in Upstate NY, it’s cold here, the house isn’t centrally heated and,, it’s too damn cold to get much cartooning done. I did design a cool skateboard and ported some designs to zazzle.com.

Check it out here: http://www.zazzle.com/mykill23

here’s a flash panel:

Yes, if you saw the skateboard deck design, that is the Sodomight lightening triangle. It’s cooler than you think, in full size it has ghosted images all over of gay rights marches, celebrations and protests from the past half dozen decades.

So, I apologize for no comics. It’s not like I  make money from it. But I do have projects I’ve been procrastinating on. Soon, Horace and the Holy ghost, promise. To be followed by an ALL NEW Sodomight!

I may, to finish the first Sodomight story, just write it out and add some pictures, it has little to do with the current Sodomight project as the new Sodomight is less funny, less cosmic opera and more … better? It’s a far better fit for the reason the comic exists: to have an EXPLICITLY gay superhero that is not a sex comic, is not even an explicitly politically gay comic -a sort of regular Superhero comic, but non the less, very GAY.

The problem with the first Attempt is the Lydia Character, she’s just much more interesting that Sodomight, thereby killing the reason for the comic. But I’ll write out a synopsis. She deserves her own title really, if anyone wants to help me out and offer to draw the thing it can happen : Lydia Liberty, Anti-Christ Superstar!

There’s another project I love which isn’t Gay at all, It’s a Mexican illegal Alien in NYC, speaking no English, trying to get citizenship with superheroics. The story is far more fabulous than that even, it’s REALLY good.

Hi all

Okay, for some reason http://kitschcore.com is appealing to spammers and hackers as a target.

So I’ve removed SMF Forum completely. I’m sticking with Wordpress ’cause it lets me handle Spam, and y’all can still interact with me.

The hacker(s) had corrupted this blog, my forum, and bad enough I’m forced to scrap all that came before and start from scratch.

I don’t know why I’m the target of such attention, as the page rank for this site is piss poor for how long it’s been around. I’m not a Network engineer or security guy – so there’s zero prestige in the hacking community targeting me. No one that dislikes me enough to attempt something like this would have the skill set to be a script kiddie even.

So, um – maybe some random anti-gay hacker? Why not hack this site with something anti-gay instead of having my blog load a site Firefox, and hopefully other browsers, already blocks as a known scam or virus site?

Other than the index page there seems to be no damage to the html (and I’ve the html and flash backed up).

I have been neglecting this site, but I am working on a new comic, Horace and the Holy Ghost – and will present it here. I’ll also rework this entire site. There’s too much on the index page, the javascript rollover navigation is whack, there should be more pages, I have more portfolio now – and I know more CSS anyway. This site is largely portfolio, so I need to present it well with 21st century web technology.

I’ll look into losing the flash for portfolios. Yeah, you can’t right click and download the art. Worse, you can right click and print to pdf. Yeah, most people too dumb to figure that out – but my readers aren’t so stupid. Bottom line tho – the comic pages look better as image files not embedded in flash.
