To be honest , this site has been around since I was trying seriously to be a comic book artist thru when I more or less resigned myself to being a graphic artist and web designer for a career. I stopped buying new comics ’cause they were expensive in terms of money and apartment space.
I’ve been unemployed for over a year, was thinking I’d get some comic work done, but focused my efforts on my occults meets e-commerce website instead. I’d been meaning to relocate to Ithaca NY, and intended to do so this month, which it looks like it may take more time.
Now the plan is to get some silkscreen equipment and print t-shirts to sell in Ithaca NY. I’m a damn good designer, I can make a better Ithaca tee. So I’m also thinking of reviving my Ithacat superhero, print mini comics of the character and give it away with the t-shirt featuring the character. It’s a plan, and the story this time is meant to be popular nationally, which is a challenge with such a localized character – but I like a challenge.
I went to the ITHCACON comic convention this past weekend. It was… depressing. Because I’ve not gone to a comic convention in many years, the ones I went to were often Ithacon conventions that were HUGE compared to the small get together this past weekend. It featured Roger Stern, Spiderman and Superman author who is also an Ithaca native, a Marvel Spiderman editor and other artists. One of the artists being a guy that worked at Marvel 10 years ago and was laid off.
On the positive side, all of the pros were impressed with my work, I was accepted as a fellow pro. On the downside, no one knew how to make money with comics much. The consensus was my t-shirt idea was a good one.
So… I will be posting an Itha-cat comic soon. If you check the misc. link, there’s a sample of the newspaper cartoon, Ithacat. It lasted 20 weeks before letter writers complained about the content and got it cancelled.
The new comic will be totally wrong for any news paper, it’ll be good.
